Holidays:

The school is closed on listed OSM holidays.  These holidays may not correspond with those recognized by the Howard County public schools.  Please refer to OSM calendar.

  Inclement Weather:

All students should call the school at 410-309-0770 to check the recorded message.  Changes to studio schedules will be recorded by 7am and will be updated throughout the day. No news is good news; come to class! OSM does not always follow Howard Co. Public School’s weather decisions.  OSM will try to re-schedule any classes missed due to inclement weather cancellations.

Absence from Individual Lesson:

A minimum of 24 hours advance notice directly to your teacher is required if you will be missing a scheduled lesson time.

Make-up for missed Individual Lesson:  If 24hr-notice is received, the instructor will make the best effort to reschedule if possible.  Not all instructors are able to provide make-up lessons.

Credit for missed classes will not be accepted in lieu of tuition.

Absence from Class:

Notify school as far in advance as possible so your vacant spot may be used for someone else to take a make-up class.

Make-up Classes for missed Class  Make-up classes must be taken during the same semester as the missed class.  There is a limit of 2 make-up classes per 10-week semester based on available space and there will be NO EXCEPTIONS. All make-up classes must be scheduled through the main office at 410-309-0770. A missed make-up class cannot be rescheduled.

Credit for missed classes will not be accepted in lieu of tuition.

Performances:

Children’s recitals are held twice a year for ages 4-18.  Teachers will notify parents and students regarding sign-up procedures.  The adult recital is held in the spring.  If a recital is scheduled during regular class time, the instructor will re-schedule the class.  Some instructors will hold their own studio recitals.

School Year:

All classes and individual lessons are based on a 40-week year beginning per the OSM school calendar.  Music Together and 3-5yr Keyboard Beginners are offered in four 10-week semesters, and all other Keyboard Classes are offered in two 20-week semesters.

Sibling Participation:

Unregistered siblings/guests may participate two times per semester in age-appropriate classes and will pay a $12.00 guest fee for Music Together, $18.00 for Keyboard Beginners (ages 3-5 yrs) and $23 for all other keyboard classes with prior notice to OSM office.  Otherwise, siblings/guests must remain in the waiting areas during class or lesson time.

Exception:  Children under 8 months of age at the start of a semester may attend at no extra charge, either Music Together (1-5 years) or Keyboard Beginners (3-5 years) with a registered sibling.

Parent Participation:

Parent participation is required in all Music Together and Level 1 Keyboard Classes.

Timeliness:

OSM advocates a 5-minute arrival prior to class so every class can start on time!

Discipline:

In parent/child classes a disruptive child should be removed by their parent until the child is able to rejoin the class without disruption.

Supervision of Children between Classes:

We ask that all children have parental supervision before and after class time in the designated waiting areas at each location.  For safety reasons, empty studios may not be occupied for any reason without an OSM instructor.  Also, children must be accompanied at all times in school stores.  Please bring materials from home to occupy siblings while other students are in class.

Cell Phones/Pagers:

OSM understands the need to have cell phones/pagers for emergency contact, however, please set phones/pagers to vibrate while in studios to eliminate disruption of classes and lessons.

Payment Policies

Tuition Coupons:  Convenient payment coupons for monthly plans will be provided to help remind parents of payment due dates.  Late charges are included in payment amount for all payments after the due date.  There is no “grace period” for late payments.  OSM will invoice students in individual instruction for music books purchased during the semester.

Methods of Payment Accepted:  OSM accepts cash, checks (payable to OSM), plus MasterCard and Visa.  To make your payments automatically by credit card, please provide an authorization for OSM to process these tuition payments according to your selected payment plan.   Monthly Tuition for Individual Instruction is determined by dividing total classes in a 40-week year by number of months. Monthly tuition does not vary by the length of the month, OSM observed holidays, absences or make-ups.

Registration Fee:  The annual registration fee of $25 for new students and $15 for returning students is paid once each year, not each semester.  This is a non-refundable fee.  The fee is waived for students with 7 or more years of enrollment at the school.  New students to OSM in the summer pay a $10 registration fee which will be applied toward the fall registration fee of $25.

Materials Fees:  For Keyboard Classes, all materials fees are included in the tuition payments per the tuition schedule.  Materials for Individual Instruction are an additional charge which varies according to student need.

Tuition Payment:  Payments may be mailed to: OSM at 9520 Berger Rd., Columbia, MD 21046.  Or, you may deposit your payments in the black tuition mailboxes located inside our Ellicott City and Berger Road - Columbia locations.  NOTE: Instructors are not responsible for accepting payments.

Cancellation/Refund Policy:

Withdrawal from a Group Class semester; OSM will refund the payment minus the non-refundable annual registration fee as follows: 1) Withdraw before 1st class = 100% refund; 2) Withdraw after 1st class = 50% refund; 3) Withdraw after 2nd class = 0% refund.  If child is injured, ill, or moves away from the area during a semester, prorata refunds less $15 processing fee will be granted with written documentation per OSM.

Withdrawal requests from Individual lessons must be made in writing two weeks prior to cancellation in order to receive a prorated refund of lessons paid in advance minus any discounts for prepayment plans.
